Racquet to Return to Milton Tennis Centre

For those of you that remember the giant tennis racquet that once marked the Milton Tennis Centre, the Milton icon will be returning to the site once redevelopment of the venue has been finished.

The seven metre racquet used to tower over the local tennis centre but was bought by hairdressing entrepreneur Steve “Stefan” Ackerie when the site was to be demolished.

Since then it has sat in a spare block of land near Stefan’s sky needle in West End, just waiting to come home to Milton.

Following the $12 million overhaul of Milton Park, the racquet, as a donation from Stefan, will return to landmark the six tennis courts being built at what is now known as Frew Park.

The park has been named in honour of Robert Frew who was regarded as the driving force behind the former Milton Tennis Centre.
