Ferry Upgrade Project Manager Chosen

Project Manager Chosen for CityCat Ferry Upgrades

05 May 2014

Great news! The Brisbane City Council recently awarded McConnell Dowell the contract for repairing flood damaged CityCat terminals and constructing the fantastic new Milton terminal.

Milton CityCat Ferry TerminalMcConnell Dowell, or MacDow, is an international engineering & construction company responsible for works such as the nearly completed Gold Coast tram system.

Many of the ferry terminals on the Brisbane River were badly damaged or even destroyed during the January 2011 floods.

The upgraded and new ferry terminals are set to have a great new look, include accessibility for people with mobility impairments and be more flood resilient than the former models.

The designs for Milton’s terminal include a European appearance consistent with the theme of the Park Road dining precinct, ensuring it fits in with the trendy suburb.

Brisbaners wanting a romantic or social night out will now have the option of a scenic ferry ride in to Milton with a leisurely stroll up Park Road to the dining precinct rather than having to deal with the often busy Coronation Drive or Milton Road.

It will also provide another transport option for local residents working in inner city areas, making Milton even more accessible than it already is.

MacDow will be working on the following terminals;

  • University of Queensland (UQ)
  • Regatta
  • North Quay
  • Queensland University of Technology (QUT)
  • Maritime Museum
  • Holman Street
  • Sydney Street
  • Milton

The project is already under way and is expected to be finished by December 2014.
